The Newest 7D from Canon
I never buy the latest upgrade, until it has been on the market for a while, so I am finally getting a new Canon 7D Mark II, to replace my trusty 7D. Right out of the box, it looks very similar but with some new buttons, and settings. Once I did the usual setup procedure, I took it out for a trial run. My first pictures were at a 5K Run event, and my subjects were runners coming to the finish line. I had trouble getting my subjects in focus, in fact they were terribly out of focus, while the background was fine. I tried changing aperture, shutter speed, and ISO with no improvement. I figured there was a setting somewhere that needed changing, so that night I got the book out and yes, there is was on Page 74, Al Servo setting. Once that was set, the camera performed nicely. If you know this series of cameras, there are lots of setting to go through. I will have to go through this completely, checking settings, and setting date and time, before I take it out to use at an actual job. So far, this looks like it is going to be another great camera.
There are three simple questions at the beginning of this review: Is it easy to use? If you have never used a 7D or something close to it, the answer is NO. But if you have been using a 7d, it will simply be another upgrade. Question 2 Does it have good image quality? If you have it set up right, YES. Question 3: Is it a good value? Let me be honest, it is expensive, but if you need a good camera, this is one of the great ones. So, is it a good value? Yes, if you need a good camera. If you just want to snap some candid shots to put on FaceBook, well,, this is not your camera, just stick with you phone.
